Gregg and Ellen’s wedding was absolutely the perfect mix of elegance and fun all wrapped into one amazing wedding day! It was so incredibly hard to choose just a few favorites for the blog. This gorgeous wedding was photographed by our associate Kay. She did such an amazing job capturing the details and fun moments.
How We Met:
Our first date almost didn’t happen! We were supposed to meet in Broad Ripple, IN one Sunday afternoon, but Ellen had to cancel after too many bike rides in the summer heat. Gregg offered to try again in Bloomington the next Friday. We’re so glad we made it happen because we quickly knew that this was it. A couple of weeks later, we said “I love you” and met the parents. The rest is history!
The Proposal:
We took a trip to Traverse City, Michigan in July with our Golden Retriever Reggie. On the second day of our trip, we spent the morning at the farmers’ market and brunch. After we finished, we took a walk with Reggie along the water. Ellen noticed that Gregg was acting weird, checking his watch every couple of minutes. She asked him why, and he said he was waiting on a call. We found a bench near the water to sit on while we enjoyed the view. Gregg started getting sentimental and kept checking his watch. Next thing she knows, Ellen sees both sets of parents walking toward the bench. Gregg gets down on one knee and asks her to marry him. She says yes and cries while their parents approach. Hugs and crying all around! Reggie was oblivious, as always. Afterwards, we all went to a winery to celebrate the happy news.
Why did you choose this particular venue for your wedding day?
We loved our wedding venue because it has so many spaces available to us for the whole day. We can arrive at 10am to get ready on-site, and we’ll have the whole second floor called The Lookout. It has a bridal suite, groom suite, an old bank vault, and a neutral space for family with lots of brick and chandeliers. We thought that space could be a good place to get first look pictures.
The venue also has a beautiful staircase that the bridal party could walk down for the ceremony, giving it a feeling of a grand entrance. There is also an outdoor deck with twinkle lights. We really wanted the option for an outdoor portion, so that was definitely a plus for us. We think it would be nice to get wedding party photos out there!
The venue also has a cocktail hour space, separate from the ceremony/reception space that will allow for guests to stay on-site the entire time!
If you look up Biltwell, make sure you look at the “Dock and Deck” since that is where we’ll be having it. There are two spaces for weddings at the event center, so we just wanted to clarify that!
Congrats you two!! Your wedding was absolutely beautiful!!
Kyle and Kendyl are the sweetest. They are both bubbly, smitten with one another and I couldn’t be happier that they chose me to photograph their engagement session and wedding day! I had the most fabulous time with Kristen and Jessey for their engagement session. We decided to host their session at the Lexington Botanical Gardens and it couldn’t have been prettier! Set your budget The first thing you really need to do is set your wedding photography budget. This will allow you to know where you are before inquiring. One of the most common mistakes brides make {from my own experience and what I hear in the wedding world} is that brides inquire without really knowing […]
